BATEMAN’s minerals and metals
process capabilities

BATEMAN’s know-how and experience in processing minerals and metals, position it well to contribute actively to the growing global mining and minerals markets. According to Roger Falls, BATEMAN Deputy Chief Executive responsible for the minerals and metals portfolio, this was the main conclusion drawn at the end of the most recent process forum held at the conference centre at ‘The Vines’, Perth, Australia.

The week-long forum was attended by the group’s senior minerals and metals process engineering personnel from the Americas, Australasia and South Africa and resulted in a strong interchange of ideas from all quarters on how BATEMAN would meet future challenges. The gathering was preceded by an intensive worldwide study of the trends in the mining and minerals markets of the future and to identify those group capabilities and resources which would be required to meet the anticipated needs of these global markets. The previous forum, held a year ago in Tucson, Arizona, had focused on BATEMAN’s current process capabilities.

“I was particularly encouraged by our conclusions,” said Falls. “It was the general view that BATEMAN should be able to improve its market share in minerals and metals processing projects. Our traditional markets such as for example the processing of diamonds and platinum group metals continue to be alive and well. The significant effort we have spent on acquiring and developing new technology and know-how during the past few years has moved the range of available services towards this market’s needs and thus improved BATEMAN’scutting edge.

“Typically in respect of the processing of base metals and ferro-alloys, BATEMAN’s recent acquisitions have strongly enhanced its position. This is reflected in its current participation in major projects in all of its operating regions, e.g. Bulong (nickel), Gunpowder (copper), Hernic (ferro-chrome), Kasese (cobalt), Mariquita (copper), etc.”

“The participants came away from the forum committed to building upon the group’s thrust into these markets,” said Falls.
