Petrochemical process and techno-economic evaluation
BATEMAN has the capability to model a refinery and/or petrochemical
complex and evaluate the proposed plant processes and configurations
and make a techno-economic assessment of the plant. A generic approach
is used to provide a reasonably accurate assessment of any plant configuration
without favouring any particular technology licensor.
The economics of various situations can be modelled. This includes diverse
plant configurations and types of utilities, existing refineries or
complexes and different feed types or means of shipping the product.
The evaluations are based on capital and operating cost and revenue
estimates obtained by means of the program. The data base of the program
contains between 80 % and 90 % of all known refining operations worldwide.
The program handles all of the normal processing routes
in a refinery complex - plus some of the more unconventional ones. A
blend of up to three crude oils and supplementary reduced crude oil,
naphtha and natural gas feeds can be modelled, as can the downstream
production of other petrochemicals e.g. polyethylenes, glycols, styrenes,
etc. Assays of 55 different crude oils are currently contained in the
data base.
Capital cost data for all of the process modules mentioned above is
contained in the program. The capital cost of a plant is generated automatically
and presented in summary, either as a direct field cost
(DFC) summary or a more detailed inside battery limit (IBL)
form. Cost estimates can be derived on U. S. Gulf Coast basis, or other
local basis, and for any date between 1960 and the present.
Operating costs cover the cost of utilities, maintenance, overheads,
insurance and operating and supervisory labour. A detailed fuel balance
is performed to check that the requirements of the plant are met. Revenue
is calculated from the product yields at the prices specified.
