New orders for Japan Pipe Conveyors

Bateman Materials Handling Limited (BMH) has received two new orders for Japan Pipe Conveyors (JPCs). The JPC is a development of the belt conveyor in which the loaded belt passes through a series of pipe forming idlers which roll the edges of the belt upwards and around until they overlap. This pipe shape is maintained along the length of the conveyor until it is allowed to open up again at the tipping point to discharge the load.

EMS (Engineering Management Services) has ordered two JPCs to convey cementitious products at the site of Blue Circle Cement in Lichtenburg, Northern Province, RSA. The first will be 271m long with two horizontal curves and the second will be 192m long with one horizontal curve. Both conveyors will have a lift of 9,8m.

Krupp has also ordered two JPCs. They will be installed at Pretoria Portland Cement’s Saldanha Bay site. A 212 m long JPC will convey coal fines and a 350m long JPC will convey granulated sludge. Both conveyers will have a lift of 34m and one horizontal curve.

The conveying pipe shapes of all of the above JPCs will have 150mm diameters.

BATEMAN holds the licence for the supply of JPCs in Southern Africa and has installed more than 50 JPCs in this region since 1984. According to Ludwig du Toit, BMH General Manager, Sales and Marketing, these new orders confirm the market interest in these environmentally friendly conveyors.

“The JPC limits dust generation and prevents pollution in two ways,” explained du Toit. “First, along the length of the conveyor where the moving pipe form prevents the generation of dust and spillage of material and also shields the material from the effects of wind and water. Secondly, because a JPC can be curved both vertically and horizontally, the number of transfer points can be minimized.”
