George Fisher Project Update

BATEMAN, in partnership with Brown and Root, has successfully commissioned the upgraded lead-zinc concentrator at Mount Isa as part of the Aus$270M George Fisher project. The overall project, consisting of the development of the new George Fisher Mine including Hilton (20 km to the north of Mount Isa), the upgrade of the existing lead-zinc concentrator and the rebuilding of the lead smelter at Mount Isa, is now more than 75 %complete.

George Fisher ore down to 7 µm.

Besides the mine development, the only remaining hurdle is to renovate significant items of plant in he lead smelter during a major shutdown planned for July 2000. The concentrator upgrade is complete.

Incorporating MIM’s fine-grinding ISAMILL and froth-pumping technologies, the concentrator is currently recovering78,8 % of the lead and 73,4 % of the zinc, thereby meeting expectations.

Says Joe Pease, MIM’s Concentrator Manager at Mount Isa: "This has been a difficult brown-fields expansion of the lead-zinc fine grinding and flotation section to 2,5M t/yr . he dedicated project team has attained all the milestones. Recoveries are currently better than expected from the existing Hilton ore – this augurs well for processing the finely ground George Fisher ore in the future.
