Mr Du Rand joined Bateman Engineering in September 2007, bringing with him a wealth of experience at Managing Director and Board level in the construction industry. Highlights of his career include roles as Managing Director of Grinaker - LTA Construction, a company with a turnover in excess of US$1 billion and more than 15,000 employees. Prior to this, he was responsible as Managing Director for Grinaker – LTA M&E, the largest South African-based mechanical and electrical fabrication and construction contractor. This company resulted from the initial merger of Sydcor (Grinaker) and LTA Autecon MEIP (LTA) into Grinaker LTA MEIP, followed by the integration of DSE Structural Engineering, Churchyard and Umpleby, and Steeledale Cladding with Grinaker LTA MEIP, which then became Grinaker LTA M&E. This merger and the integration were successfully managed by Mr Du Rand. Mr Du Rand qualified in Mechanical Engineering and completed an advanced management programme with Harvard Business School, USA.
Pieter Du Plessis - Chief Financial Officer ( * Board Member) / Chief Commercial Officer

Mr Du Plessis has been with Bateman Engineering Group for over 17 years. He has occupied senior management positions in virtually every business unit and has acted as Chief Commercial Officer, a role he retained with his appointment as Chief Financial Officer in 2008. This role includes particular responsibility for the negotiation and structuring of large complex projects for the Group internationally.
Mr Du Plessis has a thorough understanding of the dynamics of the Group and the project engineering and construction industry, having successfully project managed some of the Group’s largest and most prestigious projects.
He is currently the Chairman of the management boards of the Australian and Russian business units, and has recently been appointed as the Chairman of the Group’s risk management committee.
Mr. Du Plessis holds BSc (Eng) Chem. (1982) and BSc (Eng) Chem. (Hons) (1985) degrees from the University of Pretoria. He is a registered professional engineer both in South Africa and Europe and is a member of the South African Society of Chemical Engineers and the American Association of Cost Engineers.
Stephen F (Steve) Burks, Chief Technology

Mr Burks joined BATEMAN in 1991, as a Senior Process Engineer.
Prior to this, he worked in operational, technical and project
development positions for Impala Platinum and Rand Mines in
South Africa, principally involved with their smelter and concentrator
operations in the platinum group metal (PGM) industry. After
joining BATEMAN, he worked on PGM and non-ferrous base metal
smelters and refinery projects and studies out of the Johannesburg,
Perth and Tucson offices. He was promoted in 1997 to Manager
PGM & Base Minerals and then in 1999 to South African Project
Development Director, responsible for proposals and studies
carried out across all commodities. In 2000, he was appointed
to lead and be responsible for all activities undertaken internationally
by BATEMAN relating to this business unit. He was appointed
Chief Technology Officer in January 2005. Mr Burks has a BSc
(Eng) in Minerals Processing from the University of the Witwatersrand,
South Africa.
Arnold Matthee, CEO, Bateman Engineered Technologies

Mr Matthee joined the Bateman Group as Managing Director of
Bateman Engineered Technologies in November 2001. Prior to being
recruited by BATEMAN, he was Managing Director of Thyssen Krupp
Materials Handling and served on the board of the holding company,
Thyssen Krupp Engineering Pty Ltd, in South Africa. Prior to
this six years tenure at Thyssen Krupp, he spent four years
with the ABB Group as General Manager of the ABB Feralin Projects
Division in South Africa, where he gained extensive project,
manufacturing, construction and industrial relations experience.
Mr Matthee also spent eight years with, leaving as partner and
director of, a small consulting and engineering contracting
arm which followed three years of design engineering with the
Bateman Group directly after graduating. He holds a BSc Eng
(Mech) degree from the University of Stellenbosch and completed
the Certificated Management Advancement Programme at the University
of the Witwatersrand. His international experience ranges from
training in the USA, Canada and Europe, marketing internationally
and a direct involvement in executing a major project in Taiwan.
Ben Geldenhuys, Human Capital Officer

Mr Geldenhuys joined Bateman Engineering in 2000 as General Manager Human Resources for Bateman Projects Limited. In 2007 he took on the role as Group Executive: Human Resources and in 2008 was appointed Human Capital Officer to the Executive Committee of Bateman Engineering N.V. He is also the Chairman of the Bateman Provident Fund. Prior to joining Bateman Engineering he was Managing Director of Excorp Consultants, Group General Manager Human Resources at Denel Pty Ltd and General Manager Human Resources at Hunt Leachars and Hepburn. He has a wealth of global experience in all the major human capital disciplines including talent management, employee value propositioning, performance management organisation development, remuneration and reward, employee relations and training and development. He holds a B.Com degree from the University of the Orange Free State and experienced a range of international training and development.
