Modular diamond-prospecting plant supplied to Fenswood in Russia

Bateman Engineering has supplied a transportable, modular, dense-media separation (DMS) plant to a diamond-mining site between Chabarovsk and Vladivistok in the far east of Russia, alongside the border with Manchuria. The lump-sum turnkey contract was placed by Fenswood Consulting Ltd in the United Kingdom.

The DMS module will process 1 t/h of diamond-bearing material and produce about 50 kg/h of concentrate for diamond recovery. The module will be used essentially for diamond prospecting, where its transportability will be a great advantage when it has to be moved to new positions at the site.

Bateman Engineering was in a position to supply the module ex stock to meet the urgent requirements of the client, due to its policy of maintaining a stock of certain size modular DMS plants. It took 2 months to prepare the module for the client and arrange the export documentation, well within the 16 weeks specified by the contract. Shipping to Vladivistok took 6 weeks where delivery was taken by the client.

The business in the Russian Federation for Bateman Engineering’s modular DMS and containerised recovery plants appears to be increasing, with several other enquiries currently being processed. Previous business includes two separate orders for 50 t/h units from JSC Nizhne-Lenskoye in Siberia (see Bateman Globe No. 58) and another for a 1 t/h prospecting unit from JSC Permgeologodobycha (see Bateman Globe No. 39). Two modular DMS plants (5 t/h and 50 t/h) were supplied to Alrosa, the largest diamond exploration, mining and marketing company in the Russian Federation, as well as a purpose-designed 200 t/h DMS plant. These plants process kimberlite at Alrosa’s Aykhal and Mirny plants, Yakutia, Siberia (see Bateman Globes No 16 and 17).
