Unique modular product grabs
South African market for floating pontoons
The Bateman Engineered Technologies division of Bateman Engineering
is experiencing significant success with the Jetfloat modular floating
pontoon system, since it was awarded the exclusive distribution rights
for Africa in 2006 from Jetfloat International of Austria.
Recent applications include use of the Jetfloat system by Zululand
Multisport Club at Richards Bay, Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa, when
it hosted one of a series of Triathlon World Cup contests this year.
In an industrial application, a mining infrastructure project management
and design consultancy firm commissioned the installation of a Jetfloat
platform and walkway, fitted with aluminium footplates and hand railings,
on a dam used to supply firewater to the processing plant of a major
new platinum mine near Steelpoort, Limpopo Province, South Africa.
The Jetfloat system provides access for mine staff to the strainer
of the firewater system’s main feeder pipe.
This unique modular product comprises polyethylene floating pontoons
that may be used in a variety of different applications as floating
platforms and walkways for mining and industrial process operations,
as well as for various marine, fishing and recreational purposes.
The modular pontoons of Jetfloat are bolted together to the required
configuration and size, and can be as quickly dismantled. In one instance,
at a diamond mine, the jetty system had to be temporarily removed
to make way for blasting operations. With Jetfloat this was easily
achieved and, when the blasting was done, it was quickly put back
in place without any trouble.
Other advantages of Jetfloat include virtually no repair or maintenance
costs, long life running into decades, and resistance to degradation
from weathering, material fatigue, acid, salt water or UV rays.
