Coal-grinding system upgraded for PPC Riebeeck West

BATEMAN has designed and supplied the upgrade for the coal-milling circuit on kiln No. 1 at PPC Cement's Riebeeck facility in South Africa. The modified coal milling plant was successfully commissioned by PPC personnel during August 2005.

The mill grinds and dries coal used for kiln firing in the cement-manufacturing process and the project's goal was to increase the drying capacity and the output of the coal milling plant.

This project involved the re-routing of existing plant ducting and the installation of an additional fan in the mill circuit, together with additional ducting and flow-control dampers.

BATEMAN was awarded the contract because of its good track record at PPC, as well as its good understanding of the processes used by PPC in the production of cement, acquired through many projects of this type.
The success of this project may lead to similar upgrades at other plants under consideration by PPC.
