Promoting Technology Education

Bateman Africa's donation to RAUTEC, a non-profit organisation initiated by the University of Johannesburg (the former RAU), to support the technology educator and learner, has been used to provide learning support material to two schools in underprivileged communities: Phineas Xulu Secondary School in Vosloorus and Hoërskool Dr E G Jansen on the East Rand, both in Gauteng, South Africa.

The sponsorship made possible the production of 4104 workbooks and both schools started facilitating the first RAUTEC module in July 2004.

The project to develop the material was launched by RAUTEC in 2000, with learner workbooks being developed for four different themes for Grades 7 and seven different themes for Grades 8 and 9. The material aims to overcome the challenges introduced by the inclusion of the technology learning area in Curriculum 2005 and the Revised National Curriculum Statement, specifically covering the technological process which is an essential feature of technology education.
