New reagent facility for Impala Platinum
Tawana Projects (Pty) Ltd, the joint venture
between BATEMAN and Pro Plant Engineering Services, has been awarded
a contract by Impala Platinum for the construction of a new reagent
off-loading, make-up and distribution facility at its Minerals Processes
concentrator plant in Rustenburg.
The new facility will enable the plant to convert
from using powder xanthate to bulk liquid xanthate, as well as to install
a dedicated Sascol 95 system which was previously combined with the
diluted xanthate solution. The new system will practically eliminate
the manual intervention of the operators with the exception of the offloading
of the tankers.
The process design for the new facility allows for
the receipt of xanthate and Sascol 95 in 30 t tankers for off-loading
to 30 m³ storage tanks. The bulk solutions are transferred to 10
m³ mixing tanks using centrifugal pumps and are diluted to approximately
10 % concentration before being transferred in a dedicated line to the
Merensky, MF2 and slag-retreatment flotation circuits.
The R9M lump-sum turnkey contract commenced in March
this year and is due for completion by the end of September, 2003.
