Study on Zambian copper/cobalt project

Bateman Titaco has been appointed by Anglovaal Mining (Avmin) to work on a process package within the Chambishi Metals cobalt and copper project, known as Project Cosak.

The process, developed by Avmin, incorporates smelting and reduction of slag recovered from the cobalt rich Nkana dump, followed by recovery of the copper and cobalt by a hydrometallurgical process route in a refinery to be established next to and integrated with the existing Chambishi Metals treatment facility, 30 km north of Kitwe.

Bateman Titaco is completing a study of the smelter to +/- 10 % accuracy, employing Mintek developed DC arc furnace technology.
