Contract award from BHP Billiton

Bateman Engineering is pleased to announce the award of a contract valued at approximately ZAR146 million (US$ 20 million) from BHP Billiton Energy Coal South Africa Ltd (“BECSA”) for the provision of coal handling infrastructure for its Klipspruit Colliery located in Mpumalanga, South Africa.

The award will be undertaken as an LSTK contract. Work is expected to commence shortly and the project is due to be completed in the second half of 2009.

The new plant is part of BECSA’s expansion of its Klipspruit opencast coal mine where capacity is being increased from 4.8 Mtpa to 8.0 Mtpa. The increased production will be used to supply both Eskom and for export customers. The coal will be processed through the Phola Coal Processing Plant, a recently announced joint venture between BECSA and Anglo Coal, which will process 16.0 Mtpa of coal when completed, 8.0Mtpa for each partner.
