BATEMAN LAUNCHES GLOBAL DELIVERY CENTRE IN PUNE, INDIA

Bateman Global Services, the newly-established operational centre for Bateman Engineering, was officially launched on the 30th January 2008 with the inauguration of its offices in Pune, India.  The establishment of this second centre in India in less than two years furthers Bateman Engineering’s initiative to ensure the continued cost-effective delivery of projects by taking advantage of the relatively low cost material and equipment and the excellent availability of highly qualified and skilled technical personnel in low cost centres such as India and China.

In furtherance of the Company’s strategy Bateman Global Services will provide all of Bateman Engineering’s business units with a centralised resource of core engineering capabilities, including the detailed design of equipment and components, required for metallurgical plant projects.  It will also provide process engineering capabilities, as well as centralized information and knowledge management services and global procurement and supply chain management.  In addition, it will have human resources capabilities with a primary focus on global recruitment.

The dedicated design centre strategy adopted by Bateman Global Services will enable the centre to ramp up operations rapidly through the formation of strategic partnerships with locally-based companies with established experience in the outsourcing of engineering services, particularly for complex, multifaceted minerals projects. Two Pune-based partners have already been selected to support Bateman Global Services’ design capabilities.

The Company has also established a representative office of its subsidiary Bateman Luxembourg SA in Beijing, China to facilitate procurement and supply chain management from that region.

Bateman Global Services is an exciting development for the entire Bateman Engineering and is in line with our fast-track globalization initiative to take advantage of the increased demand for project and engineering services.  We expect these strong market conditions to prevail for some time as China’s emerging economy continues to be the chief driver of global growth, increasing the demand for global commodities, such as copper, nickel, zinc, coal, platinum, gold and iron ore.

“Bateman Global Services will assist us in continuing to deliver on our commitments to our global base of clients, providing the high quality, reliable service that is synonymous with our name,” commented Dr Sivi Gounden. CEO, Bateman Engineering
