The Bradford Breaker consists of a large electrically rotated cylinder which lifts and drops coal lumps in the cylinder, shattering them on impact. Product-size coal passes through perforations in the cylinder wall while reject materials such as stones and debris are discarded separately. The internal lifters can be arranged to accelerate or retard the material flow.

The Bradford Breaker from Bateman / Pennsylvania Crusher Corporation can be used to simultaneously size and clean raw coal for primary run-of-mine (ROM) and secondary coal crushing and to separate other materials.

Advantages:

  • Handles up to 1000mm lumps of ROM material without the risk of blockage
  • Feed rates up to 2000 t/h
  • Minimal risk of the screen-plate perforations plugging – special designs available for sticky material
  • Minimal fines generation, because the coal fractures along natural cleavage lines
  • Allows effective extraction of dust-laden air
  • Low operating cost
  • Low downtime.

Since 1976 Bradford Breakers and Granulators have been installed at various coal mines in South Africa where there are currently 22 Bradford Breakers and 15 Granulators in operation.
